VOLUNTEERS TAKE OVER EIGHT HUNDRED PHOTOS OF GRAVESTONES

On Wednesday 29th August volunteers went along to St Giles Church in Exhall near Bedworth to help with their grave stone audit.

They took photos of all the graves in the church yard for their Internet database which can be found at www.stgileschurchexhall.info

Web Master Peter Aldersley said “The idea of this database is to help people researching their family history to easily track down their ancestors.  We get emails from all over the world asking for details of people buried in the churchyard and requests to take photos of the grave stone.  This web site will greatly assist us in getting the information to them quickly.  I have nothing but praise for the way the volunteers got stuck into the task – they are a great bunch”.

Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Black says “this project ties in nicely with the digital photography courses we have been running.  Many of the young people had a go on the taster sessions where they mastered the camera controls.  Now they have been able to put their skills into practice for a good cause.”
