Woodside School Peace Garden
Woodside School had a piece of derelict land they wanted to turn into a peace garden, but were lacking in money to fund the project. PTA member Karen Sharp was told about our project by Davina Key from NWCVS developement team. We said we could help, but they still needed the money.
Karen's son joined Millennium Volunteers and applied for V cash point funding to fund the peace garden. He was successful and was awarded £2000.
We came up with the design for the garden incorporating a massive wooden cross made out of railway sleepers, which is now a major feature of the garden.
before we got to work
Around 15 volunteers, including people who had never volunteered before got to work over 2 days. It was a tough first day digging the hard land over, but then it started taking shape when the steps were put in and the membrane down.
The next day we moved the cross and laid the gravel. We then planted plants in pots and put up some bird tables with bird feeders on them.

The Volunteers
Everyone worked really hard.
We are now waiting for the school to open for the new term at the start of September. We hope the pupils will be pleased with their new garden.
We hope that their will be an official opening of the garden which the volunteers can attend.
Anyone who wants to do a simialar project, but doesn't have the funding can try V cash points. They have to be aged between 16 - 25. For more information go to www.vinspired.com
